Self-Clinching Nut

The Self-Clinching Nut, also known as the rivet nut. It is a type of nut used on thin plates or sheet metal. It has a circular shape with one end featuring serrated teeth and a guiding groove. The principle is that the serrated teeth are pressed into a pre-drilled hole in the sheet metal. Generally, the diameter of the pre-drilled hole is slightly smaller than that of the serrated teeth of the pressed rivet nut. When pressure is applied, the teeth penetrate into the sheet, causing plastic deformation around the hole. The deformed material is forced into the guiding groove, creating a locking effect.

How it works:
When the Self-Clinching Nut is pressed into a ductile material, it displaces the surrounding host material, allowing it to cold flow into a specially designed annular groove on the fastener bar or guide post.
A serrated rivet ring, knurling, rib or hex head on the fastener prevents the fastener from rotating in the host material, and once inserted, it becomes a permanent part of the installed part.
